White Tara

White Tara poster presented to me by Bryan on 11 Oct 2010.

White Tara mantra " Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayuh Punya Jnana Pushtim Kuru Svaha "
White Tara is associated with long life and the mantra is chanted with a particular person in mind. It is also a representation of compassion. White Tara is endowed with 7 eyes (palms, soles of feet and forehead) which symbolize the watchfulness of compassionate mind. Her legs are folded in meditation.
Mama = "mine", to possess qualities of long life, merits, wisdom, happiness etc.
Ayuh = long life
Punya, Jnana = known as the Two Accumulations, to be enlightened we need to accumuulate merits (develop positive qualities through ethics and meditation) and also wisdom through deep reflection, need to look deep into ourselves and see the world as impermanent.
Pushtim = wealth, abundance, increase
Kuru = mythical land north o Himalaya, means "do it" or "make it so".
Svaha = "hail" or "may blessings be upon"

Pray for long life for every sentient beings on earth.

Quote from His Holiness the Dalai Lama
